Here are 5 healthy food swap ideas to get you started

Before you go clear out your cupboards, fridge, and freezer and start making some drastic changes in order to eat healthier in 2023, hit “pause”! Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you can’t expect long-term, sustainable changes in your diet overnight! Pace yourself,  and start by substituting unhealthier snacks and ingredients with more wholesome, and healthy options.

Here are 5 changes you can make today in your kitchen to feel more energetic, nourished, and ready to take on the day:

  1. Cauliflower mashed potatoes Trust us! These are so delicious, you won’t feel guilty when you reach for seconds (or thirds!)!

  2. Kombucha instead of soda Naturally carbonated, this fermented drink is great for giving you an antioxidant boost along with plenty of probiotics to calm your digestive system. It also has antibacterial antimicrobial properties. Ditch the sugar from soda and choose from a variety of flavors to match your unique taste.

  3. Zoodles instead of noodles Get yourself a vegetable spiralizer and make any noodle dish keto-friendly and gluten-free as you can substitute the noodles with Zoodles (noodle-shaped zucchini)! You can also spiralize other vegetables like beets or sweet potatoes for a fun way to eat your veggies.

  4. Kale chips instead of store-bought potato chips Toss some fresh kale with olive oil and freshly crushed pink salt and throw in the oven to satisfy those salty cravings without compromising on nutritional value. Kale is high in iron, potassium, and folate among other vital minerals and vitamins to meet your daily needs.

  5. Choose SauFennel in between meals Have you ever felt super hungry and just reached for the nearest granola bar/chocolate bar? You’re not alone! Often in between meals, we might feel hungry and our instinct might be to reach for something that will give us quick energy (like a chocolate bar!). Instead, chose SauFennel mixes. What’s their secret? Fennel, the star ingredient in our mixes, has a high fiber content which keeps you feeling full for longer among its many benefits! With wholesome ingredients such as unsweetened coconut flakes, unsalted almonds, sesame seeds, and vegan dark chocolate chips, SauFennel's treats will give you the best of both worlds. Satisfy your cravings, while still making your doctor (and mama!) proud! ;)

Along with making healthy food swaps, it’s important to make better food choices in general. A few simple improvements you can make to your diet include:
  • Choosing meats that were grown without hormones,

  • Choosing wild-caught seafood as opposed to farmed,

  • Choosing organic, pesticide-free produce,

  • Avoiding processed foods,

  • Choosing fresh, over canned food,

  • Eating more of the produce that’s in-season as opposed to out-of-season
